Eileen R Miller is a Color Field painter who creates color atmospheres that often refer to seasons, mood, or weather. The palette is often predetermined, practicing color theory, visual perception and illusion. "I like to throw in the unexpected, employing complimentary colors, even neon pigments to make my paintings pop."

Miller pours and hand rubs pure pigment powder onto pastel boards, using unconventional tools like makeup applicators at times. Additional surface layers are applied with soft pastels and pastel pencils.

Her painting Beyond the Lagoon placed first among more than 5,000 international entries in the abstract/nonobjective category in the prestigious Pastel 100 competition. Her work is featured in the March/April 2009 issue of The Pastel Journal, along with an interview.

In 2005, Eileen began experimenting with dry pigments and was hooked. "I love the richness of color and the surface quality inherent in the material. Dry pigment on sanded pastel board can produce incredible, ethereal effects."

Miller is in the process of creating painting suites--small-sized works whose common thread lets them be grouped as an ensemble.
